From Bluff to Moab

Moab, UT

Friday morning we set out from Bluff for a hundred mile drive to beautiful Moab, UT.  Moab is surrounded by two national parks, Canyonlands and Arches, and one state park, Dead Horse State Park.  This is the third year we have come to Moab and we’ll be here for a month this visit, giving us plenty of time for exploration.

The drive north on Rte. 191 provides some spectacular scenery as it wind along with snow covered mountains always in view.

The Abajo Mountains come into view just north of Bluff

North of Monticello, UT the La Sal Mountains appear in the north

Wilson Arch is right next to the highway south of Moab

We have a beautiful site in Portal RV Park, which will be our home for the next month.

The saguaros are gone, but this is the land of red rocks and stone arches so look for a million many pictures of rocks and arches in future blogs!

More on that later . . .

A month!!! You guys are going to hike every trail and climb every red rock within a hundred mile radius. This will be fun! Your site is beautiful. Wish we could magically transport ourselves there to hike with you.

It is nice to stay put for awhile and have time to relax, not feeling like we are missing something if we take a day off. Since we have been here twice for long stays, we have done a lot of the trail. But I have some new ones on my radar:) Would be great to have you and Eric along:) ML, Steve, Gay and Joe arrive the 8th for the rest of the month. Dave and Sue moved here with us for the month. Fun times this month!

I’ll take rock shots anytime. Should be able to see quite a bit in a month stay.

That is a huge arch! Can’t wait to see what hikes you come up with. 🙂

  4. That’s a nice looking site! Hmm wonder where we will be located.
I hope I won’t miss that Wilson Arch on our way there.

    • Sue says:

Ha Ha! I missed it MonaLiza, and we were just a little bit behind Pam and John! Keep your eyes peeled!

    • placestheygo says:

MonaLiza, all the sites are nice in the resort side with lots of room:) There is a sign for it just prior to the arch. It is just south of Moab. The arch is a little behind you as you pass it.

  5. Sue says:

I agree, it was a most beautiful ride between Bluff and Moab. So many snow covered mountains and then the red rocks….wow! I can’t believe I missed the arch though, I wonder where I was looking@

  6. Debbie L says:

How is the weather? Looks so beautiful!

    • placestheygo says:

Debbie, the weather forecast has us in the low 70’s for the next 15 days and low to mid 40’s at night. We only come here for April and have always had nice weather. By the end of the month it usually getting too warm for me.

  7. Wilson’s arch is rather spectacular!

  8. Sherry says:

Wow a month. Great idea! Even so, I don’t think you’ll be able to fit in “every” hike and trail. That is a tall order but I am looking forward to your attempt. We’ve never stayed on the resort side. Do they have a monthly rate for it? I too will be interested in the temps in April. Looking forward to being there with you. You are my eyes in the west while I am stuck in the east.

    • placestheygo says:

No, Sherry, sadly they don’t have a monthly rate. The price is very much like the place we stay in Florida for price $$$$ This is our third time here for a long stay so we’ve hiked many of the trails already. But I have some new ones in the plans:)

Seems like a great time of year to visit Moab. We were there a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the area – also stayed at Portal. Looking forward to reading about your time there.

Lots of great hiking! Enjoy your time there, if you have time spot by OK RV and say hi to Dino and Lisa (MNDrifters) who are workamping there!

    • placestheygo says:

We just talked about you two last night!! We had dinner with Steve and Joan last night and they brought Debbie, Jim, and Lisa along. Not sure why Dino wasn’t there. It was nice to meet them all:)

  11. Jodee Gravel says:

Your windshield is soooo clean!! Oh, and the pics through it are sweet too 🙂 I’m going to just hate this month of amazing posts, bummed that we can’t share even a few days with all of you! Great site – and the weather sounds perfect.

    • placestheygo says:

I must say the windshield stayed clean this trip. There is usually that one huge bug that hits right in the photo area:) Wish you and Bill were going to make a stop for a visit…next time!

  12. Gay says:

I’ m lo in’ it! Can’t wait for that ride myself in 4 more days!

  13. pmbweaver says:
