Bluff, UT
On Thursday we left Wahweap RV Park on the south side of Lake Powell and headed for Bluff, Ut. The 180 mile trip goes right through Monument Valley, one of the most scenic drives in the country. The first part of the trip was pretty boring as we made our way west on Rte. 98 from Page, then on Rte. 160 to Kayenta, AZ. But at that point we turned north on Rte. 163 and things got interesting.
There were great views all around us as we cruised along the two lane road headed north.
Remember the scene from the movie Forrest Gump where Forrest is running across America? Below is the photo we took as we passed the spot where they filmed him running through Monument Valley.

Run Forrest, Run!
We left Monument Valley, drove through the little town of Mexican Hat, and approached Bluff. Along the road colorful bands of rock lit up the view.
Soon we arrived in Bluff and set up in Cadillac Ranch RV Park. Dave and Sue arrived a short time later and are in the site next to us. This is our third visit to this area and we plan to show them a few of the neat places we have found in previous trips. There are also many new places we want to visit this time around.
More on that later . . .
For as much time we spend in Utah (mostly in Salt Lake visiting our kids) there is so much yet to see! Thanks for sharing, we continue to add places to our list…..Bryce, Monument Valley, Arches, Canyon Lands, Goblin Valley…. the list just continues to grow!
The last photo looks like a painting! Isn’t God’s creation the ultimate art?
Happy Easter!
America ….the Beautiful. I am really looking forward to your visit with Utah and all the photos, adventures and, of course, the food! Cindy
Eastern Utah has such beautiful colors and rock formations. It is great to see you’ve made it back. Enjoy your time in Utah.
Great photos of Monument Valley! Run Forrest!
I would have felt like I was in a John Ford western – enjoyed the shots.
Fabulous area. We stayed at Gouldings last year, right in MV. Then we ride the motorcycles all throughout the area you are describing.

I love road shots of our beautiful country and traveling through Monument Valley is one of my favorites. Can’t wait to pass through there in April.
We love Utah. Almost too much beauty to take in all at once.
We stayed in Mexican Hat a few years back. Very nice people….campground, not so much!
Have fun with Sue and Dave. Have a very blessed Easter day!
Ahhhh it was about this time last year that we went there. Thank You for the memories!
We always enjoy the drive through Monument Valley — the colors and formations are so spectacular. I’m quite sure you’re having a blast at Cadillac Ranch — it’s our fav in Bluff, as well. Are you back yet from your hike to Procession Panel? 🙂
Such an iconic scene! Funny that our generation associates it with Tom Hanks and not John Wayne 🙂
Loved that drive. So much to see in the area. Don’t bother with the Chinese/Thai restaurant in Blanding. 😉
Really is a beautiful drive. Just had to laugh at that bright Utah welcome sign in such a beautiful inspiring non commercial surroundings.
I’ve been enjoying your Utah posts even though I haven’t been commenting! Only 3 months to do the 5 National Parks? Might take me 3 years once we retire ! 🙂
I can’t wait for our drive there! Its been on my bucket list since forever 🙂
You are leading the procession towards Moab!
