Borrego Springs, CA
As previously mentioned in our last blog, we mixed-up our reservation dates at the nearby state park. This actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we enjoyed two nights of dry camping and met some fellow bloggers out near Clark’s Dry Lake.
After some relaxing the first morning to enjoy our desert view, we decided to take a short hike to the west and climb up a nearby hill to check out the view.

Right behind us, as we checked out the view to the east, is the “famous” rock snake.
Some very creative soul took the time to gather many rocks and create a large image of a snake on the desert floor.
We arrived at the Clark’s Lake camping area at the tail end of a lengthy gathering of a group of full-time RVers, some who we know and some we met for the first time. From some of the blogs we follow who were there and have moved on, we know that just a couple of weeks earlier this group was even larger.
We were fortunate that we were in time to attend the last happy hour(s) of the group before the last of them moved on.

Pam loves dogs owned by other people (much easier!) and often has “treats” in the motorhome in case a new (or old) friend arrives. She knew a few dogs would be attending the happy hour so she went prepared with a few “treats” in her pocket. When she shared with one of the dogs, the word traveled quickly and she was an immediate hit with the canine scene!

The next day most of the crew headed down the road seeking better phone service (some of them work via the Internet, so good cell service is essential).
Two of the campers, Hector and Brenda (Island Girl), were staying put for a couple more days so we invited them (and their beautiful dog, Angel) to join us for a sunset at Font’s Point. A high rocky area, Font’s Point has great views of the Salton Sea and the Borrego Badlands to the east and the town of Borrego Springs and the San Ysidro Mountains to the west. To get there requires a high clearance vehicle with four wheel drive, as the road is mainly soft sand.

The group in the desert have all moved on and we have re-located a few miles away to the state park for a week. Anza-Borrego is filled with great jeep roads and hiking trails to explore so we’re looking forward to a great week!

All I can say is WOW! I can’t wait to see all of that! 23 months and counting!
One of these days we need to get to Borrego Springs.
Sometimes when things don’t go exactly as planned, they go exactly as they should. What fun to meet other RVers while dry camping. Pam, I love those pictures of you with the dogs. See you soon! 🙂

Liking others’ dogs is like having grandchildren. You can send them home when the fun is over. Good for you.

That was a dog fix to beat all other dog fixes! Who needs their own dog when there are so many happy pups around!!!!
That doggie-fix should last for a bit…..love the court pic! Tessa has trained Bill’s coworkers to have treats in their desk for her weekly visit 🙂 The area around the snake always looks like it’s swept regularly (I suppose it is by the wind), making the dark rock stand out even more. Hope you’ll include some pics of the state park where you’re staying. I’m thinking it might be an option in between boondocks next winter. Enjoy that wonderful valley!!

Love the photos of the “dog whisperer.” 😉 Looks like your time in Borrego Springs is off to a great start — we always have fun there and are looking forward to a return visit in late February.

Our similar “oops” didn’t turn out nearly as well as yours. Great pictures of the badlands and that closing shot is fantastic. I’ve been reading about that gathering on several of their blogs. How lucky that you were able to stumble into it for a few days.
Yoy two can have fun anywhere…. a great quality in full -time RVing. I love the photos, especially waiting for the sunset. And, it’s always a treat to see that rock snake : )

The Borrego Badlands look like and awesome yet desolate area. We have that area on our list to stay next winter.
