Ft. Myers, FL
Yes, it’s been a while since our last blog, but things have been rather slow around here (not a bad thing). On December 20th we left our previous home in Big Cypress Preserve, just west of the Everglades National Park, and began our move north to northern New York. It will be a bit of a slow trip, with a few stops along the way. Look for our arrival in the north country around, say, the month of May! Our first stop is for a brief stay (5 weeks) in the warm environment of Ft. Myers. We are staying in Cypress Woods RV Resort, just east of I-75. Cypress Woods is a large park of oversized, privately owned sites. We managed to rent a great site that is nicely landscaped with a variety of plants that give us a good deal of privacy.
A few days after we arrived we received a call from our daughter, Jessica. Somehow she had figured out our location and was at the nearby airport. She asked if we could pick her up and give her a place to stay for a few days. Apparently the cold temperatures of Pennsylvania were not to her liking!
One of Jessica’s running friends back in PA posted a picture on-line showing her bundled up from head to toe for a winter run. So as Jessica headed out for a run here in warm FL, she had to post a similar picture, with just a different running outfit and background.
While better than “up north”, the weather here in south Florida has been a bit less than ideal, with a lot of cloudy skies. But we have managed to get in some beach time at Ft Myers Beach and Sanibel Island. The width of the beach on Sanibel is a bit less than we remember from our last visit two years ago, but it is still a beautiful place to spend a quiet afternoon compared to the hustle and bustle found at Ft. Myers Beach.
When we last were here two years ago, Jessica also found the time to pay us a visit. Since then she has gone through a remarkable physical transformation through a combination of exercise (running and the gym) and a disciplined healthy diet. We have also lost a few pounds though a similar (but much less physically intense) process, so some comparison poses were in order to compare the two visits.
As the new year approaches, Jessica has returned to the frozen tundra of southern Pennsylvania (OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration). Next week Pam’s mother, Fran, arrives for a few days. She lives along the St. Lawrence River in the far north (of New York) where it really gets cold, so she is in need of a warm weather fix. Until then we’ll just spend some quiet days cleaning the motorhome and relaxing by the pool. What! Somebody has to do it!
