First Trip to the “Strip”

Las Vegas, NV

Jessica arrived right on time on Saturday and we headed to the nearby “Strip” on Las Vegas Boulevard to let her see some of the large hotels.

After parking in the Venetian, we wandered through their shopping area.

Of course, the theme of the Venetian Hotel is the canals of Venice.  Inside, there is a canal with small Venetian gondolas complete with a singing gondolier.

Outside is another canal with gondolas and singing gondoliers.  Although we’ve never been there, its hard to imagine the city of Venice when you see the glitz of Vegas in the background.

After a quick lunch at Margaritaville, we crossed the road to visit Caesar’s Palace.

You can’t avoid a slot machine in this town, as they are everywhere.  We stopped at a Albertson’s supermarket and they even had an area in the front of the store for them.  While walking through Caesar’s Palace, we stopped in the casino area to give John’s back a quick break and ended up putting a few (very few) dollars into the machines.  We’re an economical (read cheap) group and just don’t see the thrill in these machines, so we moved on fairly quickly.

We’ll be visiting the glitz of Vegas a few more times during our stay in the area so we’ll probably have more blogs in the future from that part of town.

More on that later . . .

When my daughter turned 18 I took her to “Thunder from Down Under”. It was so much fun to watch her….that was my entertainment. I hear Chippendales is better though. Jubilee is a great Vegas style show. Have fun!

We ended up passing on a show. We went in one night to see the volcano and the fountains at the Bellagio. The other nights we were exhausted from our day hiking. But thanks for the ideas! John and I spent two nights here several years ago while renting a motorcycle. We stayed at Bally’s and did the Jubilee. I wanted to see a tradition Vegas show. What a nice treat for your daughter!

The Venetian is amazing. I went to Venice with Carrie. We lived it. The hotel does a great job of bringing it alive.

We don’t play much either. We take $20. Once it is gone it is gone.

I can tell you one thing….the water in the canals in Venice looks nothing like the water under those Las Vegas gondolas! ha ha ha ha!

Is parking hard to find? We are headed that way on March 8th. We have never been there either…

  5. Swing by the City Center. There is so MUCH to do on the strip, and its a hike by itself. Enjoy.

  6. Love your new header, Beautiful shot!
