Desert Camping Near Borrego Springs

Borrego Springs, CA

After a wonderful visit in Huntington Beach, we drove our daughter, Jessica, to LAX on Sunday for a return flight to Pennsylvania.  The next morning (New Year’s Eve) we left the beach and headed east into the desert.  We have reservations at Anza Borrego State Park beginning tomorrow (1/2) for a two week stay.  For the two nights in between we are parked in a public land area about seven miles east of Borrego Springs.

The land where we are parked is in the state park where they allow overnight camping.  Many people find an open area and stay there for weeks during the winter.  We had visited the area about a month ago and had selected a spot for this stay.  Of course, there are no hook-ups here, but it sure is quiet and the views are spectacular.

After we move to the state park tomorrow we’ll begin exploring the area.  It’s filled with jeep roads and hiking trails, so our days will be very busy.  More on that later . . .

Were those Apache fires I saw in the mountains behind the motorhome? Where is John Wayne?

WOW…what a gorgeous site!!! You two certainly hit the jackpot with that spot. I bet it gets really dark there at night.

Hope you had a wonderful NYE. What a way to start the new year. Happy New Year!

  5. I enjoy your blog, but I came back to this post for a reason. In Dec 2012, we volunteered to help decorate a Rose Parade float and, of course, attended the parade on 01 Jan 2013. The theme of that parade was “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!”. Since the name of your blog is so close, I was curious to see if you were at that Rose Parade. I have a picture of the lead float with the theme on it, but I don’t know how to put a picture in a comment. Anyway, I guess you were somewhere else in California that day.

Robert, I am sorry I didn’t reply to your comment. How interesting to see a theme connection with our blog and the Rose Bowl Parade! No, we have nothing to do with the parade. Our blog title comes from a Dr. Seus book since we were both educators. So glad you are enjoying our blog:) Thanks for joining us!
