Why anyone would want to fly all the way from Pennsylvania for a baseball game that doesn’t count is a mystery. But maybe it has something to do with the 80 degree sunny weather here in Florida. Or maybe it has to do with the fact that one of the Dominicks is a long time Orioles fan and the other is a long time Phillies fan and the two teams were facing each other in the Orioles new home park in Sarasota.
Deb and Joe Dominick teach in the social studies department at Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock, PA. We’ve known them for many years as their boys both attended the middle school when I was the principal, their son Josh and our daughter Jessica were co-drum majors in the high school band one year, and I taught at the high school with both of them the last seven years of my working days. They flew into Tampa Friday afternoon and drove the one hour to Sarasota where they saw a ball game that night and then saw the Phillies beat the Orioles on Saturday. The Saturday game was corporate sponsor day so the players all came out to meet with the fans, giving Deb and Joe the chance to meet players (and legendary O’s manager Earl Weaver) before the game, pretty cool ! ! !
Later on Saturday we drove the short distance from where we are in Bradenton to Sarasota to meet them and go to dinner. When in Florida, go for the seafood and sunset, so we headed for The Beach House on Bradenton Beach.
We have eaten here three times before and found the food and service to be very good. This time the food was good but the service was sloooooow . . . That was not a problem for us as we spent the time catching up on news of the past year and enjoyed a great sunset.
Deb and Joe then spent Sunday seeing some of the local sites before flying home on Monday. We hope they had a great time, the weather was excellent for their visit.
