There are many nice chain restaurants in the Bradenton, FL area, but you can eat at one of those anytime, any where. It’s certainly more fun, and more interesting to find quirky, local places to eat as you travel. We are staying in Cortez, FL, a small “village” on the tip of a peninsula crossed as you go to Anna Maria Island. One of the “must” stops in this little village is Star Fish Company.
This little business is located along Sarasota Bay and is noted in the area for the freshest catch of fish. Star Fish Company has a retail fish market where you can purchase the fresh catch of the day, and a small restaurant in the back, along the bay. The view from Star’s dock is incredible. It includes mangrove islands, Jewfish Key, Longboat Key and Bradenton Beach. Add to that the local commercial fishing fleet and you’ve got one of the most scenic places found on Florida’s Gulf coast. It has a small counter where you order your meal and eight picnic tables on the dock where you can enjoy your purchase (served in a box).
John’s sister, Patty, and brother-in-law, Bob are staying in their newly purchased condo across Tampa Bay in South Pasadena. They came down for a visit so, after a few adult beverages at the motor home, we walked the few blocks to Starfish for lunch.
Our daughter, Jessica, showed up unexpectedly last night (OK, we picked her up at Tampa Airport) so mother and daughter spent the day at the beach. We then went back to Star Fish Co. for another lunch.
Thanks for checking us out. Sorry for the delay in blogging but the weather has been so nice it’s difficult to sit inside and blog. Life is tough ! ! !
