North Myrtle Beach, SC
We are just finishing the first of two weeks here in North Myrtle Beach. The mild weather and empty beaches have made for some very relaxing visits to the ocean.
We’ve also enjoyed spending some time with RV friends Sue and Dave Bank (Beluga’s Excellent Adventure) and Steve and MonaLiza Lowe (The Lowes RV Adventures). Three nights in a row we enjoyed a happy hour at one of our sites. We then walked to the nearby shopping area called Barefoot Landing for dinner.

Friday afternoon we were treated to a visit by our son, Kevin. Kevin is a flight instructor (soon to be an airline pilot) and one of his students, Shawn, owns a nice plane. So Kevin, Shawn, and Cory (another instructor at the flight school) flew in from Atlanta and landed at the Grand Strand Airport, just a mile north of our RV park.
We all piled into the Jeep and drove to Greg Norman’s Australian Grill for lunch. Greg was not at the restaurant that day, but we enjoyed a great meal and good conversation without him.

As sundown approached, the crew taxied out for takeoff. Unfortunately, the main alternator was not functioning properly, so they returned to the terminal. The plane has a secondary alternator that provides enough power for basic operations, but they didn’t like the idea of flying at night without full electrical power. Since there were no repair facilities at this airport, we drove them to the hotel next to the RV park, where Shawn and Cory stayed, while Kevin spent the night with us in the motorhome. Early (and we do mean early!) the next morning we drove the crew back to the airport and they took off just before sunrise. The flight back to the Atlanta area was then completed without incident.
Since we rarely get up this early, (OK, full disclosure – we never get up this early!) we drove down to the beach to watch the sun rise over the ocean. While we did enjoy the sunrise, we like sunsets better as they occur at a much more reasonable hour!
We have to stay in North Myrtle for another week to walk/read/nap at the beach. But if we don’t do it, who will?
Oh, the Places They Go! 
Looks like a great choice to settle down there at the Myrtle Beach for a couple weeks. We have been on the move too much. You would think in year three we would have figured that out by now.
How fun to have your son show up for a visit and you got to see a sunrise as a result. I keep saying I am going to get up and head out to the beach around 6 a.m. but it has not happened yet. Something about retirement. . . .
Yes, you need to start extending your stays…stop and smell the roses:) You don’t want to burn out, there is just so much to see in this country.
We are very slow moving in the morning around here. As John said, we do sunsets much better:)

As you and Hans well know, mornings aren’t my thing. I just love the slow start. But for our kids we do the darndest things!!! We both love retirement, as well:)
I’m with you on the sunsets! They fit our schedule much better than the sunrises.
I am a morning person….so I do love the sunrise pictures! Just beautiful! I have enjoyed seeing all,the pictures of you and John with everyone….6 big smiles! What a nice treat to have Kevin and friends visit.

I feel like I know a very rich family. A pilot in the family that just flies in to see his parents whenever…wherever. So cool. Glad the flight was successful.

Don’t you just love ‘the off’ season….miles of beach to yourselves? We’re early risers but not early movers. I wouldn’t want to have to pick between a sunrise and sunset. As former airline people, we do our best to stay out of airplanes but every now and then the former pilot in Al rears its head and he’s talking about going up in one of those ‘flying lawn mowers’ aka powered hang glider. Boys n their toys; I need to keep my boy away from Lake Havasu!
This is our third visit at the beginning of Nov. We love that the tourist aren’t here.
Not sure Al should continue that train of thought!!!

That is one of the best parts of retirement. I’ve waited a long time to be able to get up when I wanted.
One of the best parts of this RV lifestyle, the wonderful people you meet along the way. A deserted beach is always a beautiful thing! 🙂
You are right, LuAnn! We have meet so many wonderful people along the way. Someday I hope we catch up with each other:)

Oh, you would never catch me in a plane, especially one that small. And I agree about the sunrise – sunset thing, much rather be dreaming about sunrises and enjoying a good sunset later in the day. –Dave

Tell you what….If I see a sunrise, that is fine, but I sure do not get up early to see one. I caught a few in Anza Borrego, California last winter and they were pretty, but so are the sunsets..as you said.
